The hotel is located on the northern shore of Lake Balaton, in the popular resort town of Balatonfüred, in its central Reform-Era-quarter. The building itself is monumental with a historic air, raising it among the town's most spectacular buildings. The edifice was erected in Romantic style to serve as a holiday home for the Dőry family in 1868. Owing to its huge size some or all upstairs rooms were let for guests in 1878.
In the early 1990s, the villa was completely refurbished. Hotel Astoria was opened in the summer of 2004 to serve as an ideal place for guests seeking relaxation and replenishment.
